Training Built for the Work You Actually Do

Practical Application

Work through real occupational health problems, assessments, and decisions you can apply in practice.

Go Beyond the Tool

Matheson training emphasizes interpretation, clinical reasoning, and what to do with the information you collect.

Learn With Other Professionals

Live training creates room to ask questions, compare approaches, and work through difficult cases with people who do the same work.

Build Toward Certification

These are the certification track courses. Coursework is the first requirement; the credential is awarded after a fieldwork application is reviewed against Matheson's criteria.

Where to Stay

A Practice-Built Approach to Work and Function

In occupational rehabilitation since 1988

Matheson has been an AOTA and BOC approved continuing education provider for decades, and the methods taught here were built in that practice rather than adapted to it.

Education centered on work

The unit of analysis is the job: its demands, its exposures, and the functional performance required to do it safely.

Assessment you can defend

Training covers validated tools, the reasoning behind a rating, and documentation that holds up to an employer, an insurer, or a reviewer.

A certification pathway with stated criteria

Each credential publishes what has to be submitted and what it is evaluated against, and is reviewed by a Matheson instructor.

Las Vegas Training FAQ

Yes. Both CWCE and CWIS are sold as a live-stream seat in the same Las Vegas program, on the same dates, with the same instructor. This is not a recorded on-demand course: you are in the live session and can ask questions and interact as it runs. The in-person option additionally includes hands-on labs and in-room peer work.

CWCE is the functional capacity evaluation credential, for clinicians who evaluate what someone can safely do and have to defend that opinion. CWIS is worksite injury prevention: early intervention, job demands analysis, post-offer employment testing, and building a program an employer will keep running. CWCE runs all three days and CWIS runs February 6 and 7, so a single attendee should choose one of the two for Las Vegas.

Compare all certification tracks

No. Completing the coursework is the first requirement, not the credential. Each track has its own fieldwork submission. To earn CWCE you submit 10 FCE reports, of which 2 are selected for formal evaluation. To earn CWIS you complete the knowledge checks and submit 1 job demands analysis report and 1 Post-Offer Employment Test you created. A Matheson instructor reviews the submission, and the certification is awarded only if it meets the criteria. The cost of your initial certification is included in the cost of the course.

More on how certification works

Physical therapists, occupational therapists, athletic trainers, occupational health nurses, safety professionals, ergonomics professionals, case managers, and other rehabilitation professionals involved in return to work and workplace injury management. Prerequisites vary by track, so check the certification track page for the one you are considering.

Yes. At checkout there is a team option for buying seats for several named people in one transaction. Group pricing is available for organizations enrolling multiple professionals, so contact us if you are sending a team and we can talk through rates.

Registration and enrollment questions

The individual courses carry continuing education credit. Matheson is an AOTA Approved Provider and a BOC approved provider, and that approval applies to the courses themselves rather than to any credential. APTA does not approve courses nationally, so physical therapy credit is handled state by state. Credit values are listed per course, so check the course or certification track page for the specific training you are registering for.
