Advanced Concepts in FCE is offered in person only for this session, because it is built around collaborative discussion in the room. Neither live-stream option is a recorded on-demand course.

CWCE is the functional capacity evaluation credential and the right starting point if you are new to FCE or need the certification. Cognitive FCE extends evaluation to clients whose cognitive, behavioral, and psychosocial factors affect work capacity, such as after a brain injury. Advanced Concepts is for experienced FCE practitioners who want to pressure-test the methodology and reasoning they already use. CWCE runs all three days and the other two run September 26 and 27, so they overlap.

Only CWCE leads to a credential, and completing its coursework is the first requirement rather than the credential itself. To earn CWCE you submit 10 FCE reports, of which 2 are selected for formal evaluation by a Matheson instructor, and the certification is awarded only if they meet the criteria. The cost of your initial certification is included in the cost of the course. Cognitive FCE and Advanced Concepts are continuing education courses rather than certification tracks: they carry CEU credit and deepen your practice, but they do not award a Matheson credential.

Matheson is an AOTA Approved Provider and a BOC approved provider, and that approval applies to the courses themselves rather than to any credential. APTA does not approve courses nationally, so physical therapy credit is handled state by state.
