Worksite Injury Prevention Training & Certification

Matheson teaches clinicians and safety professionals to prevent work injuries before they happen: read the injury data, understand the job, step in early when symptoms start, and build workplace injury prevention programs an employer will keep running. It is the work behind the Certified Worksite Injury Specialist (CWIS) credential.

The certification

Work upstream of the injury

Most injury work starts after someone is hurt. CWIS is built for the clinician or safety professional who works inside the workplace, where the risk builds, and helps the organization act on it.

Certified Worksite Injury Specialist (CWIS)

The CWIS path covers injury prevention program design, early intervention and injury first aid within OSHA recordability rules, post-offer employment testing, and injury prevention built into new hire onboarding, on top of the shared Foundation.

What Matheson teaches

It starts with the Foundation

Every Matheson worksite, ergonomics, and return-to-work certification is built on the same four Foundation courses. They cover how work-related injury develops, the psychosocial side of injury and recovery, what a job really demands, and what injury data can tell you. Prevention starts there.

  1. Workplace Injury Mechanisms & WMSDs

Understand the mechanisms behind workplace musculoskeletal disorders and how to identify, prevent, and address them in clinical and worksite settings.

  2. Psychosocial Factors in Work Injury and Recovery

Explore the psychological and social dimensions of workplace injury and recovery, and integrate evidence-based strategies into return-to-work planning.

  3. Job Demands Analysis

Learn to quantify the physical and cognitive demands of any job and systematically match worker capabilities to job requirements.

  4. Using Injury Data to Drive Prevention

Master the data-driven tools and metrics used to analyze injury trends, measure prevention effectiveness, and communicate results to stakeholders.

Already hold CEES, CEOS, or CRTW? You don't start over.

The Foundation you completed for another Matheson certification counts toward CWIS too. You take only the CWIS courses and complete its fieldwork review.

  • CWIS adds 5 courses.

Courses & certification

Worksite courses and certification

CWIS follows the Matheson Blueprint: a shared Foundation, then Framework courses that build the specialty, then a Capstone. Take the full certification track or individual courses for continuing education. Each course page has the full syllabus, formats, and CE credits.

  • Worksite Injury Solutions Capstone

Apply the full CWIS curriculum to realistic workplace cases and develop practical, integrated solutions for injury prevention and workforce performance.

Fieldwork review for certification

Complete knowledge checks across the track, then submit one Job Demands Analysis report and one Post-Offer Employment Test you have built. A Matheson instructor reviews both against Matheson credentialing criteria. Submissions that meet the standard earn the CWIS credential.
